Rebekah Willett has worked as a research officer on various projects at the Centre for the Study of Children, Youth and Media at the University of London. She is currently employed as a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Education, University of London. Before working in the Centre, Rebekah taught primary school whilst pursuing her MA and PhD degrees at the Institute of Education. Her research interests include gender, identity, digital cultures, play, literacy and learning.
Rebekah has given conference papers and published articles on various topics including girls’ use of chatrooms, tween girls’ websites, pedagogies for new technologies and media literacies. Her current research investigates discourses around adolescent girls, particularly those connected with leisure uses of technology. Her project involves conducting workshops in which girls design their own interactive fashion pages on the internet, similar to dollmaker or paperdoll sites.
