Brandi L. Bell is currently enrolled in the Joint PhD program in Communication Studies at Concordia University and works with both Digital Girls and the Canadian Research Alliance for Community Innovation and Networking. Her academic and research interests are broadly encompassed within gender and technology studies and her current work is focused on examining the relationship between technology implementation and community health, specifically in relation to technology use by youth in the context of civic engagement and participation. Within this she is especially interested in youth’s (especially girls’) active uses of the multimedia and cultural production aspects of the internet and other technologies to express and develop personal and political identities in the contexts of local and global communities.
